In previous versions, if you deleted a balloon, the other balloons were renumbered. Of course the functionality has extended to the removal of the balloons as well. Once you create the project all you have to do is press the Add Characteristic but at the top of the Inspection menu and start clicking the annotations you want to balloon.

The new user interface has the option of Automatic (same functionality as before) and Manual (select only the items you want). This was a time staking process, if you only wanted a few of the annotations of the hundreds you may have in the drawing. Previously, in the Add-in application, every annotation would get ballooned and then the user would have to deselect each item individually from being ballooned.

In his current role, Nathan advocates for incorporating simulation software into the design process to shorten the development cycle, improve product performance and maximum profitability.SOLIDWORKS 2017 has brought the functionality of the standalone SOLIDWORKS Inspection application to the Add-in! Users can now manually select which dimensions get a balloon and which don’t. Before joining Fisher Unitech, Nathan graduated from Michigan State University, taught Mechanical Design at Grand Rapids Community College and ran an engineering firm where he specialized in the development of electro-mechanical products. The design library and forming tools are stored in files that are hidden by default, so it makes it very difficult to find anything when it’s hidden. In this blog, I’ll cover those three steps to enable forming tools when they aren’t available. The issue these students have is always the same and can be remedied with a three-part solution. Admittedly, it’s rather frustrating to try and use a design library when it’s not available or doesn’t work properly. The two most common being “my design library is missing,” or SOLIDWORKS is asking “Are you trying to make a derived part” when trying to use forming tools. Nearly every year when I teach a course on SOLIDWORKS Sheet Metal to students at Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I have to field a handful of concerns regarding the SOLIDWORKS design library.
